Big Miracle
Big Miracle is a surprisingly evenhanded film showing people with radically different motivations coming together to do something amazing. It also engages both adults and children in a way that makes it a great family film. Sat, 04 Feb 2012 11:26:47 +0100
Chronicle
Chronicle uses familiar themes and standard visual effects to tell a superhero story that feels fresh and original. If you can stand the shaky camerawork and you love comic book movies, this is worth checking out. Sat, 04 Feb 2012 11:26:47 +0100
W.E.
"W.E." suffers from some of the same issues as "Julie and Julia" in that the historic storyline is far more interesting and better done than the present day one, which ultimately leads to half a decent movie and another half that's almost unbearable. Sat, 04 Feb 2012 11:26:47 +0100
The Woman in Black
"The Woman in Black" is so wrought with clichés and cheap scares, it's hard to appreciate it for the atmospheric vibe director James Watkins creates in establishing its period setting. Then again, if you're just looking to watch Daniel Radcliffe walk around a house and aren't necessarily looking for a deep or scary movie, than maybe this is for you. Sat, 04 Feb 2012 11:26:47 +0100
Red Tails
Red Tails features some fantastic aerial dogfights and an inspiring story, but a weak script, inconsistent score, and disappointing acting prevent it from being the great film it could have been. Sat, 04 Feb 2012 11:26:47 +0100
Contraband
Contraband's not a bad movie. It's not a particularly good movie, either. Like so many films released each year, and particularly at this time of year, it just sort of exists for no reason or purpose. You're best off just sealing it back up in the fake wall it came out of and letting it continue on to the next port of call. Sat, 04 Feb 2012 11:26:47 +0100
Joyful Noise
Joyful Noise features some great music, a few laughs from Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton, and promising young talent with Keke Palmer and Jeremy Jordan. But a weak script makes the rest of the film quite unbearable. Sat, 04 Feb 2012 11:26:47 +0100
We Need to Talk About Kevin
It's hard to fully recommend "We Need to Talk About Kevin" because it's so dark and grim you may feel as if you've been splashed with red paint yourself, but it's a fine artistic statement from Ramsay that will shake you up with performances by Swinton and Miller that effectively hit their mark.
