IS A MUSTACHE THE NEW BEAUTY MARK?

Is A Mustache The New Beauty Mark?

Actress Andie MacDowell Sports a Milk Mustache in the Name of Beauty

December 2002 (Newstream) -- Andie MacDowell recently revealed that it's more than just genetics that give her gorgeous skin, shiny hair and a great smile. So what's her secret? A healthy diet that includes plenty of nutrient-rich milk. MacDowell knows that the nine essential nutrients in milk are important to help keep her looking great and feeling healthy, which is why she has become the latest celebrity to model the famous milk mustache.

MacDowell's ad will debut in the December 19th issue of USA TODAY. The ad copy reads: "Beauty Mark. Milk has vitamin A and niacin, to help keep skin looking smooth and healthy."

Through her new ad, the international L'Oreal spokesperson is reaching out to women, many of which fail to get enough nutrient-rich milk in their diets, which may keep them from looking their best. Research shows the vitamins and other nutrients in milk may play a critical role in boosting appearance, in addition to health. The vitamin A and niacin in milk help maintain the outer layer of skin to keep it youthful and taut, while milk's potassium helps regulate the body's fluids, making sure the moisture gets to where the body needs it. In addition, milk is about 90% water, so it can help hydrate the skin, which is important to help keep it looking smooth and supple.

"Andie MacDowell has long been a symbol of natural beauty. While most people know that drinking milk can help build strong bones, Andie is the perfect model to tout the unexpected beauty benefits provided by the nutrients in milk, like vitamin A and niacin," says Kurt Graetzer, CEO of the 'got milk?'®/Milk Mustache campaign. "So milk can help keep the body beautiful from the inside out."

The National Academy of Sciences recommends that adult women get at least 1,000 mg of calcium a day to help keep bones strong. Milk is not only one of the best dietary sources of calcium, but it is also a good source of other nutrients like vitamins A and D, niacin and phosphorus, which are also important nutrients for overall health and looking and feeling good.

For busy women on the go, there are now convenient single-serve, portable milk containers in great flavors like mocha and french vanilla. Drinking milk is healthy, and to be healthy is to be beautiful.
