William Shatner Attends 'Heinz Pours It On For Charity' Auction to Raise more than $45,000

Four Swarovski-Jeweled Heinz Ketchup Celebrity Talking Label Bottles Sought Fame-and Found Fortune-at Sotheby's Auction

October 2004 (Newstream) -- William Shatner joined Heinz at the microphone during this afternoon's "Heinz Pours It On For Charity" auction at Sotheby's in New York City, helping to bring the total raised for charity through the Heinz Ketchup Celebrity Talking Labels campaign to more than $45,000.

At a champagne brunch and auction at Sotheby's, New York's premier auction house, Emmy-Award winning actor William Shatner and more than 100 guests clamored-paddles in hand-to own one of the four jeweled Heinz Ketchup Celebrity Talking Label bottles featuring genuine celebrity autographs and "ketchuppy" quotes from actor William Shatner; movie star sensation Lindsay Lohan; two-time Olympic soccer gold-medal winner Mia Hamm and football Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw.

William Shatner was on-hand to build excitement for his bottle and raise money for his charity. "At today's special event, Heinz caught the public's eye about their Celebrity Talking Labels program while at the same time, affording some celebrities the opportunity to raise money for their favorite charity," he said.

After Heinz Ketchup Celebrity Talking Labels debuted in grocery stores across the country last month, Los Angeles artist Scott Devlin of DevlinStudios was commissioned to meticulously hand-jewel one of each of the Celebrity Talking Label bottles with 5,102 mini Swarovski crystals-just for this special event.

Money raised at the auction of these special edition Swarovski Heinz Ketchup bottles was donated to each of the celebrities' favorite charities-Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Nerine Shatner Foundation, The Mia Hamm Foundation and the Mel Blount Youth Home of Pennsylvania. In addition to the auction, Heinz is contributing a portion of the proceeds from the Celebrity Talking Labels sales to these important causes.

The new Celebrity Talking Labels, available nationwide for a limited time only, creatively capture each star's personality with their quote about America's Favorite Ketchup®.

  • William Shatner, best known for his role as Captain Kirk on Star Trek and now an Emmy Award-winner who just debuted a new ABC-TV series called "Boston Legal," announced that Heinz Ketchup "Fixes Burgers at Warp Speed."
  • Lindsay Lohan, a young and popular actress admired by teens, who will be releasing her debut album in December, summed up her opinion in just one word: "Burger-licious."
  • Olympic soccer gold-medal winner Mia Hamm-just back from Athens and the 2004 Summer Olympics-proclaimed that it's "Worthy of Gold."
  • NFL Hall of Fame quarterback and TV commentator Terry Bradshaw, revealed that Heinz Ketchup was "Served at the Immaculate Reception"-a nod to Bradshaw's 1972 pass to Pittsburgh Steelers teammate Franco Harris-in what has been dubbed one of the "greatest plays in NFL history."

The newest series of Heinz Celebrity Talking Labels are available in stores now for a limited time in 24- and 36-ounce bottles. They have already been a hit with consumers across the country, whether they are pouring it on their favorite foods or collecting all four to share in a piece of Heinz history. The collectibles continue the success of Heinz' previous "Say Something Ketchuppy" Talking Labels with phrases such as, "Are Your French Fries Lonely?" and "Makes Hot Dogs Chase Their Tails."
