Getting the Ultimate Home Theater Experience

Home Theatre Experience

Statistics Show More and More Americans are Skipping the Cineplex and Staying Home

July 2005 (Newstream) -- So far, this summer's disappointing box office numbers have made one thing clear: Americans are changing the way they watch movies. More and more, people are skipping the movie theater in favor of watching at home.

In fact, according to the Motion Picture Association of America, Americans spent an average of 78 hours each watching videos or DVDs last year - a 53 percent increase since 2002. In that time period, DVD sales and rentals have soared 676.5 percent. Right now, more than half of all homes with televisions also have a DVD player.

Academy Award(R) Best Picture winner Million Dollar Baby has just been released on DVD and the award-winning film The Aviator continues to be one of the hottest selling titles. With directors like The Aviator's Martin Scorsese spending millions of dollars and hundreds of man hours perfecting the lighting and color of their films, how do you ensure getting that full movie-going experience at home? Experts say the key is in the technology you choose:

These days, more and more companies are creating big screens with high resolution that enable you to experience a movie-quality image at home.

Choose a system that makes the most of the intended image. Philips, for example, has a line of televisions called Ambilight, which projects the dominant color on the screen and projects it as a halo of lighting around the sides of the television.

Along with hi-tech TVs, hi-tech lighting contributes to the overall experience. Special double-sided blinds help capture the true color and light of the film.

Recliners with popcorn and soda holders add the finishing touches to make your home theater complete.
