Warner Bros. Online and Warner Bros. Animation Team Up To
Present Original Cartoons At www.cartoonmonsoon.com
Website Allows Viewers To Vote For Their Favorites
March 2003 (Newstream) -- Warner Bros. Online and Warner Bros. Animation have teamed up to offer animation fans the opportunity to view, and then vote for, their favorite original cartoons at the experimental animation destination, "Cartoon Monsoon" (www.cartoonmonsoon.com).
"Cartoon Monsoon" is comprised of two rounds of competition featuring an original, jury-selected, animator-submitted cartoon every two weeks. Site visitors view the original works and then vote for their favorite cartoons, with the cartoons receiving the most votes facing off in showdowns at the end of each round, and the final two vying for the top spot. The showdown for Round One began March 4 and run for two weeks. The final run-off will take place in May with the winners of each round going head-to-head in a grand finale showdown to determine the most popular cartoon. As an added bonus, a special feature from award-winning writer and producer Paul Dini will be shown at the end of Round One.
The "Cartoon Monsoon" site, which also includes message boards and show information, presents the following original animated works through May 2003:
ROUND 1
"Oh, Shoot!"
Created by Jeff Nodelman
When three young, aspiring filmmakers; Martin, Hugh and Meryl bring into play their imaginations to reconstruct the most celebrated movies of all time, hilarity ensues.
"Slim Chance: Intergalactic Zoologist"
Created by David Fain and Steve Belfer, Jennifer Branch, Kevin Dooley, James Jacob and Carlos Palazio
Join host Jack "Slim" Chance as he visits the far corners of the universe in search of weird and unusual flora and fauna. Jack is also a clone, which is a good thing, since he tends to get bitten, sat on, flung about and eaten aplenty.
"Go! Go! Moba Boy!"
Created by Matt Danner and Eric Pringle
A 9-year-old boy uncovers a mobile phone like object that transforms him into a super hero clad in a hi-tech robotic cyber-suit.
"Undercover Dog"
Created by Adam Lane
A run-of-the-mill accountant discovers that he's working for organized crime, turns state's evidence, and sends a mob boss to jail with his testimony. After blowing every identity given to him, the government assigns him their deep cover identity of last resort: the Zuckerman's family dog named "Fido."
ROUND 2
"That's My Boys"
Created by Adam Scarpitta, Eduardo Trigueros and Caroline Hu
Roy and his brother Cody are raised by Jim, their father who's thirty-seven going on seven, a wacky, immature, single parent who stops at nothing to entertain his kids.
"The Stump"
Created by Mark Osborne
An awkward eleven-year-old alien boy unluckily named Lyle Munchak, is fatefully the shortest-clumsiest-mathematically-capable geek on his planet Flassel 7. When Lyle's family moves to the new-fangled backward planet Gimcrack, he is knocked off his feet after he discovers that being the school's biggest nerd is, in fact, amazingly cool.
"Gorilla Girl"
Created by Mark Palmer and Darin McGowan
She eats lice. She swings on Vines. She kicks jungle-butt! She's Gorilla Girl, a little human girl raised by a gigantic Silver Back gorilla.
"Fred Again"
Created by John Mathot
A genetic disorder causes Fred Abelson to turn, unexpectedly, into random animals again and again at the most inopportune times. When these transformations occur, his son tries to lend a hand to his dad, while his wife throws herself into researching her husband's off the wall disorder.
"Very Bad Children"
Created by Bob Doucette and Michael Maler
Evil comes in all sizes. They're not half-bad. They're all bad. Three bad apples, rotten to the core are the Von Oddly siblings. They horrify unsuspecting visitors with their warped and wicked antics, proving time and again that at Oddly Manor, it's not the dog you need to beware of.
SPECIAL FEATURE
* "Zatanna"
Under development with Warner Bros. Animation and written by Paul Dini
Based on the DC Comic character, a young female magician-in-training balances adolescence and magical powers while defeating evil villains.
*Zatanna is a special feature of Cartoon Monsoon and will not be in competition
with the other animated properties.
